Inclusive Coaching
My Approach
I acknowledge the importance of intersectionality and personal experiences and hold space for individual journeys. Internal work can be so complex and layered. My goal as a coach is to encourage you to take up as much space as possible and approach complex topics with curiosity while providing a safe and judgment-free environment where you are heard.
I am a trauma-informed coach within the Health at Every Size (HAES) framework. I will work as a member of your care team and provide collaborative care with other professionals such as a therapist and dietician. It is essential to stay within my scope of care and provide ethical services. I was trained under the RLC University Curriculum and have continued supervision to ensure I can provide my clients with the best care.
What is Eating Disorder Recovery and Body Image Coaching?
Coaching addresses the here and now. We work with tools and techniques to enact small changes in daily life. Coaching is not a substitute for therapy, it is supplemental care. I work with other members of your care team to provide an ethical scope of care that will be tailored to your needs and could include:
COME AS YOU ARE
I aim to provide a safe space for all bodies, races, genders and sexualities.
Eating disorder recovery coaching
Together we can dismantle the story your eating disorder is trying to tell you while building up your voice. I incorporate grounding techniques and work with you to challenge disruptive thoughts and create new neural pathways. We work within the here and now while acknowledging and honoring your past experiences and trauma.
Recovery is your journey. You can choose to surround yourself with people who will support you and hold space. I work with members of your care team including therapists, dietitians, doctors, and others to ensure you're provided the best support for your recovery.
body image coaching
Together I can help you learn to accept your body how it is and detach your worth from its shape and size. We will work on being more connected with how your body feels and how to honor its needs.
It is okay to not always to have a positive relationship with your body. I will help you learn that regardless of your current feelings toward your body, it still deserves nourishment and acceptance.
We can discuss your feelings, desires, or habits surrounding your body and how to incorporate new tools and routines.
There are two things I ask of my clients: to be honest and to be open.
The rest we will work on together.
Hi, I'm Kara!
Let me help you embrace your body and live a life free from diet culture.
I believe everyone deserves to live an authentic life and create a future of their choosing
I grew up in the throws of diet culture in the 90s. Throughout my childhood and adolescence, I didn't know there was an option to love and accept my body. Instead, I forced my body to look like the latest trend and treated her with hate and shame. Endless diet cycles, trips to Weight Watchers with family, and excessive time spent at the gym only took away from my life. It wasn't until my twenties that I stumbled across the idea of body acceptance and saw women embracing and honoring their bodies. There were even bodies that looked like mine! Seeing this challenged the narratives my eating disorder, diet culture, and even what family told me. My life changed that day and I chose to begin a path of healing and recovery.
Today, having a compassionate and nurturing relationship with my body and spirit is a top priority. It is a daily practice. I feel lucky to get to choose myself in a way that meets my needs at the moment. I now experience the joy that comes with creating a life on my terms, and not one of other people's expectations. We all deserve body sovereignty and a life of our choosing.
Since childhood, I have been a nurturer. My empathy for others continued to grow as I did my internal work. I felt a calling to the body acceptance movement and empowering individuals on their journeys. I left my career in engineering to pursue eating disorder recovery and body image coaching. I love working with clients where we can show up as our whole, sometimes messy, selves. In sessions, we can be vulnerable, courageous, laugh, cry, and even get angry at the systems that empower diet culture. I am honored that clients allow me to hold space for them and witness their healing journeys. I am forever grateful!
In my spare time outside of coaching, I love wine tasting, trying new restaurants, walks to the ocean, cooking, enjoying a charcuterie board, outdoor markets, watching reality television, and taking care of my plant and fur babies.
recovery is possible

... I have Questions
FAQs
Q: What is the difference between therapy and coaching?
A: Therapists are trained to address past traumas and diagnose patients, among other things. While I am trained to understand how those elements affect your recovery, I will focus on tools and address the present.
Q: Why should I have a coach?
A: If you're in recovery, having a member of your care team trained in eating disorders can help fill any gaps. It's also nice to have another member of your support system that you can access regularly and between sessions. When focusing on body image, I can be a resource to address that specific topic that you may not cover elsewhere.
Q: Who is coaching for?
A: Anyone who feels stress around food, exercise, or their body; especially when there is a lack of control. Anyone in recovery for an eating disorder or those who suspect they have an eating disorder. Anyone trying to meet current body trends or label foods as "good" and "bad". Anyone coming from a diet-centric family of origin and wanting to break free. Anyone ready to take an intentional step towards building a better relationship with their body.
Q: Is full recovery possible?
A: I believe it is and I know you're deserving of it! We can work on developing new coping skills, establishing new habits, and developing care plans so recovery can be achieved and sustained.
Q: Do you take insurance?
A: I do not. Insurance companies do not currently cover coaching.

Disclaimer: Eating Disorder Recovery and Body Image Coaching is not a substitute for clinical treatment or therapy. It is supplemental care that many individuals in recovery can use as additional support services or starting at the early stages of forming a treatment team. We will discuss the need for additional members within your care team depending on your situation to ensure you are getting ethical support and the appropriate level of care.
